Le Chabichou, Luxury Hotel in Courchevel 1850

The adventure of a lifetime

One day back in 1963, Michel and Maryse Rochedy bought a traditional Savoyard chalet with 9 bedrooms in Courchevel 1850. He worked in the kitchen while she managed the hotel.

The seasons passed and the property established a reputation for its comfortable accommodation and excellent food. As the ski resort developed, Le Chabichou focused on improving its offering and its popularity continued to grow.

The proof? The Michelin star it was awarded in 1979 (a first for the village of Courchevel) which earned Michel Rochedy the flattering nickname of “the Bocuse of the Alps”!

The epic continues. Barely five years after this distinction, the restaurant Le Chabichou is awarded a second star in the Guide Michelin. In 1987, Stéphane Buron joins the kitchen; he would later win the Taittinger Prize in 2002 and be named Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 2004. From then on, Michel Rochedy and Stéphane Buron form a unique four-hands gastronomic partnership.

In 2003, the hotel is awarded its fourth star. From the four corners of the world, guests come to Le Chabichou for the quality of its services and, above all, for its authentic and family spirit at the heart of the Domaine des 3 Vallées.

From one extraordinary family to another

After spending 55 years establishing and enhancing Le Chabichou’s reputation, Michel and Maryse Rochedy decided to take a well-earned break in 2018. Keen to preserve the spirit and values of their property, they gave the keys to the hotel and the Michelin-starred restaurant to Jean-Claude Lavorel, the chairman of a family-owned group.

The Lavorel Group shares Michel and Maryse’s passion for tradition, working to maintain and update these traditions to ensure a dynamic future and offering guests a sophisticated yet warm welcome at Le Chabichou in Courchevel 1850.

This renaissance is crowned in 2019 with the awarding of the hotel’s fifth star, celebrating the excellence and evolution of Le Chabichou.

A new property from the Lavorel Group

And so a new era began. The Lavorel Group has continued Michel and Maryse Rochedy’s work, refurbishing the property in its entirety to ensure that Le Chabichou’s reputation as the ultimate 5-star hotel in Courchevel continues.

In the hotel’s restaurant, Stéphane Buron still thrills connoisseurs with his wonderful cuisine which boasts perfect simplicity.

With its impressive history, Le Chabichou is looking to the future with excitement and confidence. It continues to shine bright, above the snowy peaks of Courchevel 1850.
